Casa Santuario

Context

Suspended on a single concrete pillar, Casa Santuario appears to float among the treetops—a refuge elevated between forest and city in San Pedro Garza García. More than a residence, it is a sanctuary: a bridge between human life and the vast Sierra Madre Oriental landscape.

The commission was to design a private residence that transcended convention by integrating luxury, innovation, and sustainability. The challenge was to create a large-scale home within a dense forest without harming the natural environment, while ensuring harmony among structure, function, and aesthetics.

Design Principles

Casa Santuario is guided by the principle of integration with nature, elevating the residence on a single concrete column to preserve the forest floor and existing trees. Its four volumes are strategically arranged to optimize orientation, light, and ventilation, while cantilevers and funnel-shaped columns echo the forms of the surrounding trees. Panoramic views connect the interiors with both the forest and the city, redefining luxury as the ability to live in harmony with the landscape. Interiors further extend this philosophy by celebrating Mexican cultural tradition, blending artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary design to create a sanctuary of comfort, artistry, and identity.
