Context
In June 2012, Los Cabos, Mexico, hosted the seventh G20 Summit, welcoming international representatives and world leaders, including Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin, and Angela Merkel. The event required an exceptional venue that could meet the highest standards of design, sustainability, and security..
Following a last-minute commission by the Mexican Federal Government, FR-EE, led by Mauricio Ceballos, was entrusted with the design and construction of the G20 Convention Center. The project was conceived, designed, and built within an extraordinary seven-month timeframe, meeting the demands of an international event of this scale
Design Principles
The architecture responds directly to its desert environment, integrating sustainability and comfort through innovative design strategies. The building features Mexico’s largest green wall, a defining element that helps regulate humidity and reduce heat gain, ensuring thermal comfort within the arid setting.
Despite the accelerated schedule, the project maintained high environmental and security standards, combining precision engineering with efficient execution. The result is a structure that stands as a symbol of adaptability and excellence, demonstrating how design innovation can meet urgent global needs without compromising quality or environmental responsibility.
